The Prolific Penny
An Introduction to a Series that highlights free or affordable software for designers, filmmakers, and developers. This is aimed to help graduates who have lost their access to enterprise accounts provided by their school
SOFTWARE

As soon as I Graduated from College, I no longer had access to some pretty essential tools that I would need for the work I was looking for. I did alot of things in Photoshop, whether it was creating designs for shirts/logos, developing textures to use in 3D objects, or as its intended, making more detailed edits to existing pictures.
Luckily, I had people and sources that showed me alternative tools to use, some of which I would not had known about if not for them. Some software I already did know about and use like Blender, but not necessarily for purposes similar to after effects. Today, there are alot of open-source resources that can most likely do what you need it to do for your work.
With this Series, Ill be going over various software you can use that works well and is more affordable. Some of these will have a cost, but they are within reason for someone that wants something that works a bit better than a free alternative as they may not have the same features. Most of the ones I'll talk about should be runnable for the majority of computers, but there are a couple I will be sure to mention could require higher system requirements. In addition, I will also make sure to include alternatives so that if you are not able to run the software, you'll have a few options that work just fine to hopefully achieve what work you need done!
As this section is for software, I will not be going over scripts that could potentially do the same thing. While some of what these software do can be done using a Python script, it's quality can vary and it is not as convenient a choice for some readers. With that said, I do encourage every reader to learn how to make their own scripts that can do these functions; perhaps we'll cover making those scripts in our guides section.
There will be a few software I will mention like gimp as it is a free photo editing software, but It's not one that I care for using personally. Now if it is perfect for your use or work, then that is excellent, but I'll be sure to have a few options for everything if I can as some of my own choices might not be for everyone.
Finally, I will make sure to mention software that is applicable to designers, film makers/editors, programmers, and IT technicians. Each of these will be labeled with "Prolific Pennies" in the title to make it easier to distinguish what software is either free or affordable for use! If it gets too big, Ill see about adding sub categories for designers, filmmakers, and developers
